Vilano Boat Ramp Closed for Channel Dredging Project – The Vilano Boat Ramp will be closed through Tuesday, October 31 due to a dredging project that will improve navigability to the ramp for public use. St. Johns County would like to thank residents and visitors for their patience as staff works to improve this public facility. For more information, please call 904.209.0193.

Parks and Recreation Facilities Closed Due to Hurricane Irma – The following St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Facilities are closed pending inspections due to Hurricane Irma. Within parks that are open, there may be areas that are closed due to safety concerns:

  • Canopy Shores
  • Nocatee Playground - Other areas of the park are open.
  • Riverdale Park East and West are closed.
  • Trout Creek Boat Ramp - Limited access due to river cleanup.
  • Vaill Point Park

Are You Ready for Youth Basketball Clinics? For basketball enthusiasts looking to play as much ball as possible; have no worries we are offering the opportunity for athletes to participate in basketball this fall with 7 week developmental clinics designed to enhance player's skills prior to our youth basketball league held in March! Celebrating Working Forest Week
When: Wednesday, October 18

Where: Vaill Point Park, 630 Vaill Point Rd., St. Augustine, FL 32086
Details: St. Johns County Parks and Recreation is excited to announce that we have partnered with Wetland Preserve LLC, a working forest and member of The American Tree Farm System, to offer a fun informational program all about our amazing forests. During the program participants will learn about the forest habitat, animals that call the forest home, and the services that our forests provide. There will be hands on activities and informational materials to take home.

FREE Kayak Trip at Moultrie Creek
When: Thursday, October 19, Friday, October 20, Saturday, October 21, Sunday, October 22
Time: Thursday: 8am, Friday: 9am, Saturday: 10am, Sunday: 11am
Where: Moultrie Creek Boat Ramp 4805 Shore Drive, St. Augustine, FL 32086
Details: Join us for a beautiful paddle of the marsh along Moultrie Creek. During the paddle participants will learn about the marsh ecosystem, the animals that call it home, as well as the history of the area. All trips are approximately 3 hours long.

Owl Prowl
When: Thursday, October 26, Friday, October 27, Saturday, October 28
Where: Thursday: Alpine Groves Park, Friday: Canopy Shores, Saturday: Vaill Point Park
Time: 6:30pm-8:30pm
Details: Participate in a unique opportunity to explore a county park after dark with our County Naturalist. Those who attend will learn about the creatures of the night, including the resident owls. Sign up today for this FREE guided walk.

Walk the (Wrack) Line
When: Tuesday, November 14 & Saturday, November 18
Where: Vilano Beach, 2750 Anahma Dr., Vilano, FL 32084
Time: Tuesday 10am-11:30am, Saturday 1pm-2:30pm
Details: Ever wonder what is in the wrack line that washes up on the beach? Now is your chance to learn. Join County Naturalist Kelly Ussia to explore the wrack line and identify the amazing things that end up there. Participants will get to walk the beach and comb through the wrack line to learn about the importance of the wrack line, creatures that utilize the wrack line, and objects that often end up there.

Children's Shorebird Nesting Program
When: Sunday, November 19
Time: 10:00am-12:00pm
Where: Nease Beachfront Park, 3171 Coastal Highway, Vilano, FL 32084
Details: St. Johns County Parks and Recreation has partnered with the St. Johns County Audubon to offer a FREE Children’s Shorebird Nesting Program. This program is for children third grade and up. Participants will learn about the unique birds that nest along our beaches. In addition, children will participate in activities that mirror what the real bird biologists do to protect our local nesting sites.

Solomon Calhoun Community Pool 2017 Fall Schedule – The Solomon Calhoun Community Pool, 1300 Duval St., has released the 2017 Fall Pool Schedule for lap swimming, water aerobics, family swimming, swim lessons, and swim teams. Facility Announcements

Vilano Boat Ramp and Parking Lot Access Restricted Due to Dredging Project  –  Access to the Vilano Boat Ramp and a portion of the adjacent parking lot will be limited until January 2018 due to a dredging project. The work may also require intermittent closures of the boat ramp during this time. Boaters are encouraged to exercise extreme caution when using the ramp and parking lot during the dredging process and utilize other boat ramps when possible. Every effort is being made to accomplish the dredging and parking lot restoration in the most efficient manner in order to allow full use of the facility as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience during this time of progress that will improve the channel for all boaters. Ketterlinus Gym Closed Due to storm damages caused by Hurricane Matthew, the Ketterlinus Gym remains closed to the public. A reopening date has yet to be determined.

Flagler Estates Park Basketball Court Maintenance The basketball courts at Flagler Estates Park are closed for renovations, a re-opening date has not yet been determined. Please contact Phyllis Thorpe with St. Johns County Construction Services at 904.209.0193 or pthorpe@sjcfl.us for additional information.

East end of Pope Road – Temporarily closed due to damages to sidewalk, parking slab, and drainage system. Reopening date is to be determined.
