What is RSS?

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a way of sharing web content like news headlines. Think of it as a “What’s New” from a website. It is used by many sites including CNET, CNN, Disney, Forbes. It is a way of using your web browser (or a desktop application depending on the service you choose) as a news service that ONLY YOU choose the content for.

What RSS Isn’t

RSS is not email (though if you choose, some readers will email your information to you). It is not a way for people to send you unsolicited information. By choosing to keep track of information from the SJC site, you are in control of what you see and when you see it. You can subscribe or unsubscribe at any time.

How do I use RSS?

If you have not already set up an RSS News Reader, you will have to choose one. RSS news readers allow you to view the service(s) you select all together in the same place and, by automatically retrieving updates, stay current with new content soon after it is published.

How do I get SJC RSS Services?

The feeds we currently offer are for Meeting and Event Calendars.

  • Choose what you are interested in following navigate to that page.
  • To subscribe, right-click on the orange RSS feed icon on that page. rss icon example
  • Select “Copy Shortcut” or “Copy Link Location” to copy the location (URL) of the service.
  • Follow the instructions for your news reader, and paste this link where it asks for the location of the service you wish to subscribe to.
